A one-day, interdisciplinary workshop organized around the themes of “Material Histories,” “Images and Others” and “Empires and Leisure” in the long nineteenth century. Three invited and three local scholars will share precirculated works-in-progress, including Ali Behdad (UCLA), Will Mackintosh (University of Mary Washington), and Holly Shaffer (Brown University); and, from UCR, Heidi Brevik-Zender, Jonathan Eacott, and Fatima Quraishi.
