I’ll be teaching: Non-narrative strategies in experimental film and video art

A great part of experimental film and video art produced since the 1990s refers to the movie’s visual language without telling stories in the conventional sense. What function do such references fulfill then? And in what way can images and soundtracks be structured if not by the principles of cinematic narration? The seminar will introduce central artistic positions and explore a variety of non-narrative strategies in experimental film and video art, such as looping and chance operations.
