The Department of the History of Art is proud to announce that undergraduate Jane Arney will be presenting at UCR's Second Annual Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity on May 2, 2008. Her presentation, titled Nike's Triumph: the Transfiguration of Nike in Greek Art, explores the development of the personification of Victory in Greek art and thought. Her mentor for the project is Professor Conrad Rudolph of the Department of the History of Art. http://www.ugrs.ucr.edu/index.html
STUDENT AWARDS
The Barry Neil Zarakov Memorial Scholarship Award
The Department of the History of Art proudly announces undergraduate student Frances Kim as the Barry Neil Zarakov Memorial Scholarship recipient for Spring 2008. Frances plans to continue her scholastic pursuits to the graduate and doctorate levels. She plans to use this scholarship towards an internship or other work-related program.
The Richard C. Carrott Memorial Fund Award
The Department of the History of Art proudly announces undergraduate student Tia Welch as the recipient of the Richard C. Carrott Memorial Fund Award. The award will greatly enhance Ms. Welch's thesis on "Making the Ninth Try a Success: John Singer Sargeant's Portrait of Isabella Stewart Gardner." Ms. Welch will give a presentation of her work made possible by the grant in Fall 2008.
The Barbara B. Brink Travel Award
The Department of the History of Art proudly announces graduate student Conley Entwistle as the recipient of the Barbara B. Brink Travel Award. The award will enhance Mr. Entwistle's research for his thesis on Le Train a quitté la gare: Hybrid Modernity at the Musée d'Orsay. Mr. Entwistle will conduct research in Paris in the summer, and give a presentation of his work made possible by the grant in Fall 2008.
Maxwell H. Gluck Fellowships
The Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts is the premier arts outreach program at the University of California, Riverside. Each year, the Gluck Fellows Program of the Arts provides fellowships to exceptional UC Riverside undergraduate and graduate students to conduct arts-related presentations, performances, and workshops in schools, residential facilities for elderly care and community centers. Participating departments include Art, Creative Writing, Dance, History of Art, Music, and Theatre, as well as the Sweeney Art Gallery and the UCR/California Museum of Photography.
The Department of the History of Art proudly announces the following graduate students as the recipient of the Gluck Fellowships in 2007-2008 academic year: Conley Entwistle, Rose Gomez-Adams, Jessie Huh, Juli Johnson, Min Peng, Bruce Picano and Lauren Popp.
